I found a shop that i can buy flowmaster 40 series mufflers through for 37.00 plus 10.00 shipping. But i need to know which offset i need to use. But will the 40 be too loud? And maybe the 50 series be a better choice?

In on the offset side and out through the center.

Or: In on the offset and out through the opposite offset?

Help me out please. Also if anyone needs a link to the shop let me know. -

Just call Flowmaster and ask a tech. Don't forget that you will need to have custom pipes made. That's big money. You can get a single inlet, dual outlet Flowmaster for the X.

Big Money? Umm-No. The muffler can be installed using the factory exhaust tubing, without making "Custom Twice-Pipes".

Yes the muffler shop will need to add a small section of tubing to make up for the difference in length of the OEM muffler, but it is hardly a "custom" job.

Typically you should not pay over $40.00 for this type of install.

I was looking at the Calmini exhaust system. If I want an intake can I just go with a better muffler and stock piping? Which do you reccomend?

You can go with an aftermarket muffler in leiu of a cat-back and gain an amount of HP increase.

As far as a muffler preference Flow-Masters are good, though on some engines they sound crappy (I haven't heard one on an X yet). I would suggest going to a reputable muffler shop and get some advice from them...they see exhaust systems every day and can usually suggest something that would sound good/work well on your truck.

FWIW I tried a straight-through "turbo" muffler, it sounded like CRAP! ... Though Gibson uses straight-through mufflers, and they sound good. The total-package benefit is what you get when you go cat-back.

...Or you could go for the Cholo sound and go with twin 24" cherry-bomb glass-packs, and 1" pipes!

Why would you get a single outlet Flowmaster? It makes no sense. If you gonna go Flow you go mo. It's pricey to get the second pipe made. I checked and said no way. I am just waiting for someone to make a bolt on dual outlet. Just one thought, the X has crappy sound proofing and the 40 series is gonna rattle the bones. I would recommend considering the 50 series. It still sounds good and you'll have less interior resonance. Good Luck.

Has anyone heard the 40 or 50 series? Will the 40 be too loud for sure? It is a tough decision because $37 is a pretty good deal. But if it is going to sound bad for sure i dont want it.

When I called Flowmaster many moons ago, they said that 50 would suit my needs better than the 40. It sounds good outside, not to bad inside. He said 40 would probably be too loud.

hey reb! gotta check out lvxc.com.

anyways, i got the 50 which sounds nice at idle and at the begining acceleration but it seems wide open sounds kinda weird bouncing off walls and in tunnels. i was wondering if its because of the stock pipes.

I have a dual exit 40 on my Ram that just has turndowns under the bed. Car alarms chirp when I drive it through parking lots and the geezers at Sonic think the world is coming to an end when I start it.

seamonkey, i would be willing to bet that the Ram is loud as hell with that set up. The x doesnt exactly have a 350 under the hood so i may not be quite as socially offensive(IE;Badass) as you. which is too bad. But I get my 40 series and airaid next week, ill post pics and sound.
