My service engine light came on in the wifes 2001 xterra(se 4x4 auto).
I've heard of the gas cap not tight causing this, and sure enough, it wasn't on right.
Its tight now, but the light is still on.
How do you reset it? Pull the EFI fuse? Disconnect the battery?
Thanks.

Usually it will go off in a few days after the cap is tightened.

Mine came on after tanking up. The first thing I did was fix the cross-threaded filler cap (New Jersey-No self-serve mad ). I noticed it went out a little later while running around which included a few starts and stops of the engine. If I remember correctly Oleg figured it out as three start and stop cycles.

Im also from NJ, sucks no self serve. I now told the wife, if you dont hear the cap click a couple of times whne they put it back on, tell them to re do it. It went off, after 3-4 drives. Truck performed fine on the drive to and from LBI.
thanks

yz,

Glad everything's OK. BTW have you checked out NJAX? I read you like to 'wheel. I'm in Middletown. I go to the Pineys alot to explore (usually alone so I don't like to take chances).

No, I havent checked them out. To be honest, I dont wheel the X(wifes truck), I wheel my other trucks. Is NJAX just for X's to go wheeling?
Now that the weather is nice, wheeling is put on hold for the most part, and riding is what its all about.
A big thank you to yamaha for the 2002 YZ250F, an incredible machine!
We pass the piney's every weekend on our way to LBI, but Ive never wheeled in that area.

Nope. NJAX is for everybody. We do dinners and mod days and we're planning a picnic for later in the summer. I'd like to get some people together for a paintball game some day too. Come on by and check us out-
