If the rear is dipping and the front end is lifting, then you need it. It doesn't have anything to do with the weight of the towed trailer, it has to do with the weight being easily distributed across both axles.

Actually, what the trailer weight isn't that big of a deal as long as you can pull it. What matters is the tongue weight. If it's high (compared to trailer weight), it will put more weight on the hitch; low, and it could lift the hitch - especially on bumps and could feasibly come unhitched (my dad did this once - not pretty!).

So the tongue weight should be about 10% of the trailer weight. More than that and it will effect steering and cause your truck to sit low in the back. If it's too light, it will cause it to sway.

Okay
I finally was able to get my Bilsteins installed and the KYB gas adjusts removed today. My first impression is the truck is stiffer the front rides higher and doen't nosedive when braking.I will give a full report after this weekend when i can put some time on them towing and highway and give them a little to break in!

Anyone have a fix for the passenger seat shake on the highway while it's empty?

I thought that was kinda odd when I bought my X. I thought it was the tires out of balance or the alignment was way off. Guess the only way to stop that is to have a 20 something girlfriend sitting in the seat!!

Which shocks to get is dependant upon what you want them to do for you.

Rebound and compression valving, collapsed and extended lengths, and other factors come into play.

Its not like if you get brand A, no matter which one, it will be best for YOU.

Its like saying "I need a sandwich, what's the best one?"

laugh

So, what rebound and compression valving ranges, what compressed and extended lengths, what kind of bypass or other heat dissipation requirements do you have?

How much does each corner of the truck weigh?

Did you want this for high speed pre-runner use, rock crawling, a daily driver, fire roads?

If a combination, what priorities? (Biased towards which scenario?)

Etc.

Then you can first start thinking about what shocks the makers have that can MEET those specs.

Or, you can just ask some one who sells shocks, and end up buying whatever they decide to sell you.

For example, they make units that acts as bump stops, to provide lift, by robbing you of uptravel...and they are popular, because the sales people leave out that detail.

laugh

...and so forth.

So - What'r yer specs you wanted?

Might be, what are the specs on the used shocks he's selling?

Here's another way to go too, for comparison:
