Does the sunroof give any extra airflow? I was thinking of getting one installed and if it would be worth it. Has anyone ever seen a sliding one on an X?

I don't think they make a sliding one, with the body style of the X and all, but I could be wrong.

I've got an SE, so the pop-up sunroof came installed.

Negative points:
- The noise of the roof rack combined with the rack fairing makes it quite loud in the cabin when the sunroof is open.
- The sunroof is not easily taken out. It requires removal of two screws and removal of the front roof rack fairing.
- Using roof mounted off road lights causes the entire cabin to be lit up as bright as turning on the map lights.
- The gear basket and sunroof cannot be used at the same time.
- The rack fairing covers up 3/4 of the sunroof anyway - requiring a fairing mod to let in more light.

Positive points:
- It does increase airflow into the cabin.
- Increases resale value
- It's cool to look up at the F-18 jets at Miramar, CA as they fly overhead.
- Sunny California rays enter the cabin.
- Another way out if I have one of those SUV rollovers.

All that said - I like mine, but wouldn't really miss it if it wasn't there. I don't think I would go out of my way to put one in.

If you do put a power moon roof in, I'd be interested in seeing the pictures.

Good Luck,

Basically what Snoopy said...

I got one in mine, and I kinda like it. I'll like it more once I can see through the wind deflector...

I don't find it to be too noisy at all, especially as compared to the side windows. Crack the sides a bit, pop the sunroof - and you've got nice ventilation going on!

I quite like the fresh air that moves about my head with the sunroof open. It's less harsh that opening the windows. Above 50mph, however, it does get a little loud.

I think most of the noise comes from the rack wind deflector... particularly the space between the rack tube and the side of the deflector. I've been looking for rubber strips similar to the one on the deflector where it contacts the roof. If I find one, I'm going to seal the gap between the deflector and side rack rail.

I, too, have seen the sliding power moonroof!
But it was at the dealership on an Xtreme
Xterra... The moonroof was actually above
the rear passenger side... It looked pretty
cool... No blockage from the roof rack; like
the way they are now! Unfortunately, I don't
know of any aftermarket parts/manufacturer
that will do that to the X...
