Forgive me for cross posting... I have been looking for a decent rack for my xterra to tote my gary fisher out to the trails. I ran across the RAW rack which instantly grabbed my attention due to the fact it mounts directly to the X's existing rack and requires no additional yakima crossbars, towers, or full length wheel gutters. It is also a fork mount in front which is what I want. Has anyone used this rack before? Is it stable? Does it suck?

Danko

I just saw the RAW mount myself last night on www.xterraparts.com, the mount is a clean setup - but, it seems a little spendy. I did some searches on the web ... and didn't come up with anything .... hopefully you'll get a reply or two!

I have the steelhead attached directly to my rack. I just bought 2 horizontal mighty mounts that are made for the xterra. Then one cross bar i think the one i got is 48". So the mighty mounts are attach to the steel head then to the rack. Then on the front of the steelhead i connected it to the crossbar. Now i think this will only work with two steelheads being that crossbar isnt attached to anything on the rack, it was used just to stiffen things up. So the mighty mounts hold everything to the rack and it is very solid. I dont know if this is clear but if you would like some pictures let me know and I can email them to you, or try and post them.

What holds the bar to the rack?? I'd like to see your configuration, it would enable me to use the steelhead for both the X rack and my Load Warrior. Please post a pic. Thanks.

I think I figured out your steelhead configuration. You used four mighty mounts to hold the two steelheads to the factory rack, and you use the 48" bar to stablize the two racks together (which makes sense). This configuration would cost roughly 280ish plus tax. The RAW system would look cleaner ( and stronger), but, the RAW system wouldn't work well when I have my Load Warrior up. Thanks for the input. cool

I bought two sets of the raw mounts and I love them...I have only used them a few times, but they worked great to carry my bike on 3 hours trips. They are well made and very stable.

I love the way they mount directly to the roof rack. They fit perfectly.

I also purchased the locking mechanism.
