I had good luck with woodfield nissan in hoffman estates. The guy I dealt with was a huge guy named Louis. I didn't buy my X there though. I was climbing in kentucky when I ran across mine on a lot there but if I was to buy in the chicago area louis would have had my business. It seemed like they were the only dealership that was interested in "making a deal" well that's my 1.3 cents!

Thanks for the input. I'll definately give
Louis a ring. Do you live in Minnesota?
How do you know so much about the Chicago area? just curious : ) By the way, I'm leaning towards a black SE myself.
Thanks again.

I bought at Woodfield Nissan after having experiences at Evanston, Loeber and Al Pemonte that nearly drove me away from buying this car. I think I got a good deal on a 2001 at a time (late summer) when 2000s were still on the lot. I will say that one post sale service experience has been somewhat disappointing. Hope this helps...

Although I am living in Portland (OR) now, I was born and raised in Chicago for 24 years. I would recommend Mid City Nissan.

What every you do, do not go to North Shore Nissan. They are your typical Dealership that promises you everything (I even had it in writing) and delivers nothing. They promised me a loaner (free of charge) after they had my delivery date, I had to hound them for almost a month to get it, now my Xterra is due in about a week from now. I was even a Nissan Purchase Program Customer and they gave me nothing but a hassle.

Good luck in your search for an honest Dealer, they are hard to find.

If you want sheer volume of Xterras, check out Gerald Nissan in Naperville. They got just about every color including 3 salsas!

Good luck trying to strike a deal. I've heard good and bad, they didn't get my business a year and half ago when I was looking for mine, and they are less than a 1/2 mile from my apartment.

Thanks, that's good to know, since I know they
are in short supply and since my purchase date
is drawing near (probably end of Jan).
I was contacted by Bill at Continental Nissan
through Autobytel. Anyone know anything about
this dealership or salesman? I can't wait
to have this part of the process over with!

I had bad experiences with Arlington and Libertyville. Both places I knew more than they did. Woodfield I have only second hand knowledge, pushy sales guys, but that's second hand mind you! I ended up going through the internet guy Mark at Gerald Nissan in Naperville. No need to haggle told me 500 over invoice and that's the deal, but I went through the internet first, so I don't know if the deal works on a walk in or not, it was also for a 2000 SE 4x4 last May. It's a bit of a hike, but worth the deal, at the time there was a $1,500-2,000 on top of MSRP for demand(all dealer profit) at the time! Hope this helps, oh yea, shop em all cause they are all different!

well, it sounds like you got a pretty good deal. How did you go through the internet?
Did you just email the dealership?
$5oo over invoice seems pretty good for this area!

I'm pretty sure I went through carpoint, on the MSN site. All they did was send what you punch in to the dealers and they contact you. The other dealership they deal with, at least then, was Loeber(I think?) downtown. Loeber wouldn't tell me anything over email, Mark Thompson at Gerald told me what they had, what he could do and for how much. He was very easy to deal with!!! He did tell me they only did that deal(at least then) through the internet. So try it!! I don't have his email any longer, sorry! Good Luck!

I was able to get a good deal from Al Piemonte in Northlake. I was able to get the color/model I wanted for a decent price. The one drawback is selection. They only have about 15 or so Xs, most of which are XEs.

Hey Joe, have you had any dealings with the service department at Al Piemonte yet? I am still on the hunt for a good dealer service department!

I'd personally would not got back to Mid City Nissan after dealing with them. However I got a good deal at Kelly Nissan in Oak Lawn (south side).

I paid $23,000 for my '01 SE 4x4. It had 850 miles on it so it was the demo truck, but all was in good order and the best deal I found before that was $25,300.

In case anyone is still following this thread, here's an update. I went to MidCity because they are the closest to me and I was trying to decide between a couple of colors...
XE with 3pk vs SE etc. The salesperson actually told me that you get a sports-suspension with the SE! And they offered me about $3000 less than my trade-in is worth. I don't know yet first-hand if anyone else will
be different, but my conversations with Gerald
and Continental Nissan have seemed more on the up and up.

Remember you can try selling your trade-in directly to CarMax without buying one of their cars. I did that with my Camry when I bought my Xterra. They even give you a quote thats good for something like 3 days. Also Carmax in Kenosha WI has new Nissans, check the web for their prices.

i would also recommend checking CarMax...they generally give better deals or can provide the ammo for getting a local dealer to match their prices.

Does anyone have any experience with South Side Nissan in Chicago. It is on 63rd street near the lake. I was planning on buying there. How is there service, and pricing?

Thanks

Never ever deal with anything in the south side of chicago. Dangerous, unreliable, risky, etc.

Born and lived in chicag for 25 years, and thanks God I've moved to the west coast.

Hey, I live in the south side of Chicago!! And so does a great University, the U of C. I guess maybe you listened to a little too much Jim Croce when you were a kid.

Dreaming no longer! Got a pretty good deal
at Gerald, picked up a new SE last night.
Thanks everyone, for your help and advice. Now I can't wait to hit the road and put some miles on the odometer. I did go to Carmax although I was pretty disappointed with what they offered me although I did make the dealer come within $200., which wound up being 1300. more than they initially offered me. So, all is good and now I'm in my new X!!! Really couldn't be happier.
