I went to my local dealership Sunday (just want sticker prices!) and was looking around for a 4x4 XE auto 3pack. They had one listed for 26061 BUT they added 495 for 'true market value'.

I went to carsdirect.com and they will give me the EXACT car for 24649 and edmunds gave a market value of 24631. So thats almost 2k off their sticker.

So i guess my question is, do you think the dealer will drop to get reasonably close to carsdirect and edmunds numbers? I'm new to this whole car dealership haggling.

Thanks!

Does that cars direct price include Destination? I think cars direct is pretty good site to base your numbers on. Edmunds is off sometimes. Just go in and haggle, but don't tell them right up front you have a cars direct price or anything. Just keep that figure in the back of your head and if you get close to it then buy. Remember, tax+tags+tite+whatever else your state requires is not part of the equation. Plan on adding at least $1,000 or so to the final negotiated price of the vehicle. As a side note - I scored a 2001 SE 4x4 for 25,000 including destination. ALl I had to pay was about $700 extra to get it titled and registered. Many people I know are paying about $25K for either an SE 4x4 or an XE 3 pack these days. If they won't go to around $25K or so then keep shopping. Some may go lowerer.

I'd agree that many regions have come down on price while others are still hoding out for MSRP or something close. IMHO, it probably makes more sense than ever to broaden your shopping range and resolve to take a roadie if it'll save a grand or two.

I'm still trying to figure out the XE 3-pack versus the SE total in auto 4wd. Do you find the SE to be worth the extra money? I plan on having this vehicle for a loooooong time after it's paid off and just want to know the best way to get the options. Does the XE 3-pack allow for more price reduction?

In Des Moines, there is one Nissan dealer. All they have are SE 4X4. I don't even get a shot at an XE. I could drive to K.C. or Omaha for better selection, though.

Jbird.
We are in OMaha looking for the same thing. An XE 3 pack 4x4> We got an offer via e-mail from McCarthy Blue Springs Nissan. "It is a XE with power package, sport package, Utility Package, floor mats,
splash guards, and in cabin filter." for 23,200 + a $169 "admin" fee (profit cough cough) What it doesn't say is whether this is a 5 speed or auto. If you go to the Nissan sight you can look up dealers by area code. Try 402, 712 (council bluffs), and 816
(Kansas City) And PLEASE let us know what you find. WE both seem to be in the market for the same thing and may be able to get a good deal...

TRY McCarthy Nissan in Olathe, KS! I bought my 2001 Xterra SE 4x4 5-Speed (Just Blue) for $23,800 + the so-called "$169 Admin. Fee" that they charge. I bought it from them last month (mid-February). I feel lucky in getting such a great deal considering MSRP with all of my options (floor mats, splash guards, in-cabin microfilter and electrochromatic mirror) totalled $26,055. Invoice alone on a 2001 Xterra SE 4x4 5-speed is $23,081 without any options. Let me know if you have any questions.

lets see...
first off, radiogirl, i've seen you on edmunds town hall (i'm xcellenttrk)...i have an XE 3pack. love it, don't need the SE options. i put in a better stereo, cd changer, getting neoprene seat covers, no need for the sunroof, or leather steering wheel. (radio controls are useless in my situation...) so therefore, no need for the SE.

beanik-that price is probably for a 5 speed, unless they're totally blowin them out. i picked up my '01 XE 3pack M/T for $23,300 all inclusive. no in-cabin microfilter though...

Blue_Xterra01-that's a pretty good price. but the only thing is, there really are NO options w/ an SE. the only things are 'extras' like the tow hitch...

if anyone overpays a little, who cares? what does it add up to?? a couple bucks a month?? as long as you're happy w/ your Xterra, that's all that matters...

here's the breakdown i found, for the XE, auto, 4wd, 3 pak...

base veh - 20507
options - 2663 (includes mats, in cabin, guards, and moldings)

That's 23170.00...Now from that, take 3%, or 695.16...That's the dealer holdback (money that's credited from the manufacturer to the dealer - BUILT IN PROFIT!!!)...We're down to 22475.

Add 540.00 for destination charges - 23015 is what Ned Nissan is payin for the truck...Base your offer off this figure...Anything at around 2% over invoice is a pretty good deal...

I just picked up my automatic SE fully loaded. I paid $26,200 with destination, tax and tags included. We gave a price so low that they let us walk out of the showroom.

I did my shopping completely over the internet. See if there is any local dealers that have their own website and internet salesperson; they will probably give you a quote sent to your e-mail address. It's a good way to get a decent price without all of the haggling...
