i'm looking for recommendations for off-roading/4-wheeling books.

"4-Wheel Freedom : The Art of Off-Road Driving," by Brad Delong seems well received.

thanks in advance,
mikeT

i have that book. its a great intro into 4 wheelin. covers stuff you should bring for survival, replacement parts, etc. also covers airing down tires, winching techniques, fording water, mods to 4x4's, and alot more stuff. its a pretty good book.

I bought that book from 4x4books.com, but I saw on Amazon.com that they are selling an 'updated' second edition.

Though not focused on offroad technique, "The Field & Stream Sporting Vehicles Handbook" covers many topics dealing with upgrading your vehicle to make it more offroad worthy. It's a fine companion to DeLong's book.

"4-Wheel Freedom : The Art of Off-Road Driving" finally got delivered. I've read a fair bit of it. It is generally well written, though a bit verbose at times. Many aspects are covered, from gear, to treading lightly, to vehicle choice, and explanations of various vehicle systems. There's plenty of tips throughout and it's up to date. I would prefer more information on the technical aspect of driving off-road.

It's worth a look if you're looking for the basics.
