I read the owners manual for my dad's Liberty and it states that you can shift from 2Hi to 4Hi up to 55mph. And the best way to shift to 4Lo from 4Hi is while doing 2-3 miles per hour. confused

What differences exist in the drivelines between the two different makes? Are the front axles always engaged on the Jeep? And why would it be better to be moving to shift into 4Lo?
Curious. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Well, the toyotas have ADD (automatic disconnect differential) instead of the X's auto hubs or manual hubs. The ADD is what gives the vehicle the ability to shift on the fly and I'm assuming the Jeep is based on the same mechanism.

This link explains it much better than I could:

This link explains the auto hubs:

Hope this helps
Steve

Liberties come in Command-Trac and Selec-Trac.
Selec-Trac is Part-time/Full-time (AWD)
Command-Trac is Part-time

I didn't think they had ADD but I'm not sure.
All 4WD's act different.

You'll find more answers here.
