I keep hearing different stories to both weight oils, but which one is the best???

Ever since the first oil change on the Xterra, Ive changed it with Full Synthetic 10w-30. I hear that 5w-30 is better because its easier on start-up and gives better fuel efficiency. Since 5w-30 is thinner though, do I have to compromise more engine wear?

Any suggestions would help. Im changing oil this weekend.
