Mesa Verde is pretty neat but will probably be mobbed this time of year.

Great Sand Dunes National Monument is also cool, but same story. I was actually more impressed by White Sands in NM.

Four Corners is a TOTAL tourist trap.

I would allow a bit more time to get to Kansas City from Ouray - that is a 940 mile drive and you'll be more tired than you know.
