Lift will not make your 4x2 "keep up" with a 4x4, on 4x4 trails...

However a correctly built Long travel suspension will make your X out perform a 4x4 in "desert running"

A locker will go along way to help the 4x2 X... think of it as being 3 wheel drive seriously the only times i have gotten stopped in my X were due to clearnace or lifting a wheel(sometime both )... a 3 inch lift and a rear locker and you have just eliminated both those issues
