She is leaning to the Sony because of the lens she already has for the 35mm Minolta which will fit the Sony.
Same or similar CCD technology as what is in most Nikons.

Minolta lenses are a fair investment for the non-pro, but if your wife ever gets into the higher end lenses - she might be outta luck.

In camera stabilization is cool.

Price is good, but I would be worried. Things change quickly in this market. Canon and Nikon are constantly cranking out excellent quality DSLR's and every 6 months the selection changes so dramatically. 3 yrs ago when I bought my D70, it was considered "prosumer" and was the lowest model available for Nikon. Since then they have introduced the D50 and the D40. There's no telling what Sony will do in the next yr or two and what Pentax/Canon/Sigma/Nikon/Fuji/Olympus will do either.
