Pardon my ignorance, but are super delegates the equivalent of an electoral college for the democratic party? I've heard so much about them these past few months and I'd like to understand their function better.

Here's what I know:
1. They're eligible to cast votes for a person running to be the party's nominee.
2. They're exclusive to the democratic party.

Oh and for the record, I really loathe the media right now.
