Actually, as it is with a lot of things, the premium tires may be cheaper in the long run. Since you will have to replace the cheaper tires sooner, you may have to buy TWO sets in the life of just ONE set of the premium tires. So when you consider the cost of TWO sets of the cheaper tires, they may be more expensive then the premium tire for the same mileage. Plus, you're more likely to have problems (sidewall puncturs, less traction, etc.) with the cheaper tires too.
