I will venture a guess. The X's auto trans measures the oil temp and the computer varies the application speed of clutches and bands (via oil pressure) to make shifts feel the same, hot or cold (this is described in the service manual.)

No doubt this is another simple passive component (like a resistor) that makes the trans computer think the oil is a different temp than it really is, as required to make the shifts more snappy.

It should not change the shift points.
